CGI - Capture Geometry Internally by Crump Group Inc.
Rapid First Article Inspection & Reverse Engineering of Complex Parts
CGI’s 3D Scanners offer superior digitizing capability and performance over laser digitizers, touch-probes, X-ray and in-house CAD reproductions for parts with complex internal features. The CSS Systems include the CSS 300, the CSS 1000, the CSS 3000 and the Pearl 700.
CGI’s Cross Sectional method for 3D Scanning provides measurements and information that are very difficult to obtain otherwise. You can:
- 3D Inspection – for small molded parts
- Capture Complex Internal and External Geometry
- Measure Internal Features
- Reverse Engineering
- Failure Analysis
- Tooling Qualification
- Create an ultra-dense point cloud
- Pliable Parts Inspection
The CGI Process - The part or object that needs to be 3D Scanned is:
- Visually inspected to determine the best orientation for placement in the CGI Encase-It potting compound medium. It is also decided which color of Encase-It will provide the best contrast between the object and the medium.
The object is positioned in the container and the CGI Encase-It is gradually added until the object is completely covered with the medium.
- A vacuum chamber removes all air bubbles and voids. Then the Encase-It is allowed to harden completely.
- An industrial face mill removes ultra-thin layers of both the Encase-It mold material and the object itself. Between each layer a digital image is taken.
- This reveals every detail of the internal and external geometry. The result is a very accurate 3D Point cloud of data.
- The point cloud can then be imported into 3D software, such as RapidForm XOR Redesign or XOV Verify, allowing a direct comparison of the point cloud to a CAD model. This type of comparison, called 3D color mapping, enables you to easily see how closely the injection molded part compares to the intended design.
